What is ‘important for’ a person are the things that help them to stay healthy and safe, whether it is important to them or not. Along with what’s important to someone, what’s ‘important for’ a person forms the foundations of how best to support someone.
In services, staff are often directed to focus on keeping people healthy and safe. If this is the only focus then a person will not be living a life that means something to them as the things that are important to them are overlooked.
