Making connections

Let’s take a closer look at one of these ideas. Steven decides that he wants to develop his photographic skills and meet other people who are interested in photography too. Here’s what happened:

Finding a course

Steven and his support worker Dave look at various options and Steven decides that he wants to take a photography course.

Enrolling

Steven’s support worker Dave supports Steven to enroll in a photography course at the local college.

First weeks

For the first few weeks Dave travels with Steven on the bus to the college and supports Steven within the class.

Support from others

As the weks pass, Dave finds that Steven needs less and less support. Other people in the course get to know Steven and give him support when he needs it.

Making friends

Steven finds out that another guy in the course is into the same kind of music that he’s into. Steven knows a lot about music and together they spend hours discussing various bands and albums.

Getting out and about

It turns out that in a couple of months one of their favorite bands is playing a gig in their town. They two make plans to go and see them.

Making connections

A few weeks later Steven sees one of the ladies from the course at his local coffee shop. It turns out that she lives just around the corner from Steven and she offers to give him a ride to and from the college.

Growing in confidence

Steven’s photographic skills go from strength to strength and one of his wildlife photographs is chosen for the college calendar.
