Helen Sanderson Associates USA is pleased to host a series of remote conversations, bringing people together to discuss and explore how people of all abilities are touched by HCBS requirements.

What are Curious Conversations?
Curious Conversations are a way to connect people of varying experiences and perspectives to have open conversations about topics they might not normally engage with one another about. Curious Conversations create a safe place for people to come together to learn with and from each other.

What will we do together?
We will focus one of ten different HCBS requirements each time we meet. Discussing what the requirement means to us and our understanding of how it might affect others. We will be using Tri-Counties Regional Center’s HCBS Final Rule: The Animated Series videos as conversation starters to look at real life situations through different perspectives. We will then have the opportunity to break into small groups to discuss  what worked, what didn’t work, and what more could be possible. (90 minutes)

Participants will receive the materials, conversation guide, and script so that they can host a Curious Conversation about HCBS requirements within their own networks. HSA facilitators will offer guidance on how to do this in a post session discussion (30 minutes).

Who is Curious Conversations for?

• Service providers
• People with intellectual/developmental disabilities
• Family members
• Regional center staff
• Any interested community members

How does it work?

• We will host one conversation each week in a welcoming environment where we respect, listen to and learn from one another.
• We will meet via zoom for 90 minutes.
• We will take turns talking in small groups to share, learn, and be curious.
• No preparation is required.
• Optional 30-minute post session discussion to show participants how to host a similar Curious Conversation about HCBS requirements with friends, co-workers, and families.

Information about registration:
Space is limited to 25 people per session. Please be sure to let us know if you are not able to attend so someone else can come in your place.

Each HCBS requirement will be covered multiple times, participants are invited to attend as many times as they would like, as the discussions will always be fresh and different.
